San Telmo

This area south of the Plaza de Mayo was once inhabited by the very rich who lived in large sumptuous houses. An out break of yellow fever in the late 1880s saw them relocate to the northern areas. Immigrants quickly took up residence in these large homes renting out rooms to other families. This area has retained the original homes and cobbled streets.
